A new field residency in Languedoc will explore art, trauma recovery and symbolic transformation through the Ginkgo lab. research programme.
The Cornelius Arts Foundation, Ginkgo lab. and RIZOM are pleased to announce a new summer residency for London-based artist John Costi at Lagamas, in the Languedoc region of southern France, during August 2026.
Hosted under TCAF’s Ginkgo lab. research programme and co-developed with RIZOM, the residency will open a new chapter in practice-based research into art, trauma recovery and symbolic transformation. John Costi, RIZOM’s inaugural Symbolic Field Fellow, has developed a body of work shaped by lived experience, survival and the repeated transformation of traumatic material into symbolic form.
The Lagamas residency provides a new environmental and creative context for this next phase of his practice. Set within a landscape of historical depth, agricultural slowness and sensory richness, it will allow the artist to approach his archive through different material, rhythm and light.
TCAF will document the residency through its research protocols, with attention to the relationship between environmental context, creative output and the practitioner’s own account of change. RIZOM will contribute its symbolic intelligence frameworks, including the Basho Loop™ and Metanoia™, to support the documentation of threshold moments, reframing and renewed agency within the creative process.
The residency sits at the intersection of art, rehabilitation, trauma recovery and practice-based research. It also reflects the shared ambition of TCAF, Ginkgo lab. and RIZOM to understand how symbolic systems help individuals and communities sustain coherence through disruption, renewal and transformation.
